A Beginner’s Guide to Bitcoin (Part 2)

Now that I know what Bitcoin is, where can I buy it? Is it a good investment? Is it really the currency of the future?  Can I murder my ex with a Bitcoin? These are things you have probably been wondering about since reading my other post on Bitcoin, so let’s go ahead and answer those questions here.

Where can I buy Bitcoin?

There are a lot of ways to get your hands on the yummy cryptocurrency, but I use Coinbase to buy, sell, and store your Bitcoins.

Update 6/11/2021: I had a difficult time at first with Coinbase, but they have since been pretty awesome, so I decided to remove the content that sarcastically described my experience in setting up my account with them. As a result, this part is even less funny than it was before. Sorry.

Update 6/25/2022: I had some misunderstandings about Bitcoin and there has been some new news, so I have updated this post.

Is Bitcoin a good investment?

That is a difficult question that I avoided answering directly in Part 1 of my beginner’s guide to Bitcoin, but now we’re in Part 2 of the beginner’s guide, I will continue avoiding it. But here is some information that might be useful to you: some dude somewhere said that Bitcoin prices will go up this year. According to the chart below, he seems to be onto something.

This screenshot is from tradingview.com, so I have to give them credit for it. Drat.

As you can see, I have drawn an upward arrow onto the Bitcoin price chart to imply that the price of Bitcoin has been going up in 2018. Drawing fancy lines onto charts to make yourself look smart is called technical analysis among elite traders. I recommend giving it a try sometime because drawing can be a soothing activity.

My cousin said Bitcoin is the currency of the future. Is this true?

It’s certainly the currency of some countries. As a side note, I can benchpress more than 30 pounds, which is pretty awesome.

Can I murder my ex with a Bitcoin?

No, you cannot murder your ex with a Bitcoin. You can, however, hope that (s)he buys some Bitcoin and then commits suicide when the price plummets appreciates out of control.

Or maybe she will choke on it.

That’s all, folks. Now go make some wise decisions with your money and investments*. The future of cryptocurrency is now!

Disclosure: I own a little bit of Bitcoin because I believe it is a great place to park my money.
